Cordillera activists ask SC to review junked petition for writ of amparo
Cordillera activists will file a petition for review on certiorari before the Supreme Court on June 19, 2023 on their petition for the writ of amparo dismissed by the Court of the Appeals. They will be accompanied by leaders of Bayan, Sandugo and the Samahan ng Ex-detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto (SELDA).
The petition of the 24 activists, including Windel Bolinget and Joanna Carino, and Stephen Tauli, a victim of abduction by alleged state security forces, will seek the Supreme Court’s reversal of the CA’s 17th Division’s decision junking of their petition for legal protection from threats to their lives, security and liberty.
Respondents in the petition are the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), Philippine National Police, Regional Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee in the Cordillera Administrative Region (RLECC-CAR), Philippine National Police Regional Office, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), Philippine Army, and Department of Interior and Local Government-Cordillera Administrative Region (DILG-CAR).
Media coverage is requested on June 19, 2023, at 10 a.m. in front of the Supreme Court, P. Faura Street, Manila. Petitioners and their lawyers may be interviewed. Photo opportunities will also be available.
